License Plate Bags
If there’s one thing I keep my eye keenly open for during the summer season (right up there with new hot wardrobe items), it’s beach bags. I guess you could consider beach bags part of a summer wardrobe though, especially when you are living right in the backyard of Cape Cod and South Shore beaches (and if you're like me, you enjoy spending as many "out-of-work hours" down at the shoreline).
Having said that, the pile of beach bags I’ve collected over the years seems overwhelming, but each are unique in their shape, size, style, color, texture—none, however, like Tricia Deck’s Nantucket Island inspired license plate bags.
Designed by the local fabric artist herself, Deck has photographed over 250 real license plates from different states, all reading words with ties to the coast and Nantucket. She then made photo collages out of the images and had them printed on each of her bags. The colors are fun and hold a unique beachy look, with plenty of nautical blues and reds (from the Massachusetts plates of course) reading words like” Gulls,” “Nantckt,” “Codfsh,” and “ACK” (in reference to the Nantucket Memorial Airport.)
Deck has bags for all beach goers and their preferred style. She makes duffle bags, large and small totes, wristlets, and even a mini wallet that boasts her signature blue beach print material, used to line the inside of all the bags (her youngest daughter actually drew the patterns on the lining fabric).
My favorite is her casual hand bag, its straps made of authentic marine rope. How clever! (And yes, these bags don’t have to be just for the beach!)
