The stately home at 28 Canterbury Street in Hingham is custom built and has just about every amenity imaginable. Reminiscent of an English manor home, the owner was inspired by many years spent in Scotland and the United Kingdom. First impressions are always important and this home does not disappoint. As you pull up to the home, the stone façade reflects what one would see while driving around the English countryside. The perfectly laid stone and white trim are of impeccable taste and the driveway is laid with pavers. A fountain in the front gives the property almost a Tuscan feel.
The home was built by the award-winning MZO Architects of Stoneham and they have put only the best products into the home, including a Smart Home system. As you enter through the side entrance, you can immediately tell that careful attention was paid to every detail. This entrance also serves as a potting/gardening room complete with custom cabinets, granite counters and a brick floor. Off this room is the immaculately clean two-car garage with plenty of storage.
The kitchen is also off the potting room and will impress anyone who loves to cook. The 10-foot ceilings, light-colored granite countertops and oak cabinets give this room a homey vibe. There is ample storage, a large kitchen island, and a floor to ceiling brick fireplace. Across from the fireplace is a built-in breakfast nook, shelves to store cookbooks, and even a wet bar. It is truly a professional chef’s kitchen with a double oven, Thermador 6-burner cook top. and a large Sub Zero refrigerator.
The kitchen opens up to the great room through an arched doorway and sunlight floods through the windows and French doors located around the room. There is a beautiful stone fireplace that serves as the focal point for the room and crown molding and custom, built-in cabinets add to the look. Plantation shutters are attached to each window and the room is accessible to the backyard and pool through French doors.
The first floor also includes a beautiful library/office, a grand foyer, and a dining room. The library features built-in bookcases, a granite window seat and a limestone fireplace that was imported from Italy. There is also access to a mahogany porch outside that is a perfect spot for enjoying an evening drink. The exquisite dining room features a double-coffered ceiling, an Indian crystal chandelier and another imported Italian fireplace. It is easy to fit a table for 10 in this large room and the light and airy feeling comes from the large bow window.
The grand 20-foot foyer is accented with a beautiful wrought-iron staircase and a Juliet Balcony that overlooks the entryway. The curved staircase takes visitors upstairs to the three bedrooms and marvelous master suite. The large master features a gas fireplace, its own balcony that overlooks the pool area and his and her’s dressing rooms. The master bath belongs in a Tuscan villa with heated onyx floors, onyx countertops, walk-in linen closet and custom cabinetry. There is also a steam shower and adjoining room with bidet and heated Toto toilet.
There are two large additional bedrooms on this floor that each has their own separate full bath. The bedroom next to the master suite has access to the large upstairs deck that overlooks the backyard and also houses a staircase to the attic. The attic has a spacious cedar closet perfect for storing your extra clothes and there is also a large unfinished area that could be finished as a bedroom or game room. There is also a game room, complete with a built-in home theatre that could be used as a third bedroom. The room has access to a full bathroom and also has two doors that provide privacy.
Heading back downstairs, you reach the finished basement. There is more storage here, a sitting room and a tiled exercise room. This level opens up to the stone patio by the pool and garden, which is a haven that was modeled after a 5-Star spa. The pebble stone patio around the pool and hot tub is ideal for a patio set and there is also an outside shower on the side of the home. Separate from the pool area is another patio that is the perfect spot to put your grill and enjoy the outdoors.
