Looking to expand your knowledge of wine pairing? Ralph’s Derby Street Wine & Spirits offers weekly wine tastings open to the public and free of charge, as well as monthly wine classes featuring unique wines from around the globe. At a recent Wednesday night Wine Education class at Ralph’s, hosted by co-owner and world-class sommelier Ralph Hersom, I sampled Esporao wines imported from the Alentejo region of Portugal. The tasting was led by Esporao’s United States representative, Ms. Blanche Orbe, who educated me about the vineyards, the Portuguese culture, as well as how to pair each wine with food to create the perfect marriage of flavors. In addition to the educational experience, I was entertained by Hersom’s witty humor and his extensive knowledge of the foreign wines.
Whether you’re looking for a night out with the girls or something fun for date night, the wine classes at Ralph’s is a great option. Upcoming events include: Wines for Thanksgiving on November 14 and Wines for Holiday Entertaining on December 12.
