EXPLORING THE SOUTH SHORE ONE BITE AT A TIME
Tour on Tap
New England is home to some amazing craft breweries that produce unique beer varieties with distinct flavor personalities. The South Shore, Cape & Islands Beer Week, which is running through May 19th, celebrates this growing industry by enhancing the public’s beer knowledge through scheduled tastings and special events and local restaurants, bars, and liquor stores.
I stopped in Cedarville Wine and Spirits in Plymouth this week to sample a few beers created by Cisco Brewers on Nantucket. Of the beers I tried my personal favorite was the "Grey Lady Ale,” which is named for the foggy island where the ale is brewed and can be recognized by the iconic mermaid figure pictured on the label. This golden wheat beer is fermented with Belgian yeast and brewed with fresh fruit and spices. The taste is flavorful without being overpowering, and it paired perfectly with the evening’s backyard cookout fare. Cisco Brewers, which is a partner to Nantucket Vineyard and Triple Eight Distillery, is open year-round so if you’re a beer lover and you’re planning a trip to Nantucket (Figawi perhaps?) you might want to stop in for a tour of the facility. www.ciscobrewers.com
