EXPLORING THE SOUTH SHORE ONE BITE AT A TIME
A Simple Lunch on the Porch
When craving a quick, hearty lunch in downtown Plymouth, I often head to the Blue Blinds Bakery in Plymouth for some old fashioned good-for-you food. The charming antique porch of this quaint bakery café has a brick floor and several tables, making it a great place to relax and meet unique local characters, or just people watch. The bakery offers a variety of fresh pastries, artisan breads and menu items made from simple organic ingredients. The menu features soups made from-scratch, hearty sandwiches and naturally sweet desserts.
On my most recent visit I arrived famished and eager to sate my hunger with something wholesome and delicious. I selected a turkey sandwich on organic spelt bread from the chalkboard menuand a homemade lemon iced tea. I took a seat at a small café table outside on the porch, beside a giant white pillar. The service was friendly and surprisingly fast, with the sandwich quickly delivered to my table.
It was clear that this was no ordinary turkey sandwich. Thick slices of turkey were layered with fresh ripe tomatoes, cracked pepper, a layer of yummy herb boursin cheese and leafy greens between two slices of homemade 4-seed spelt bread that had been drizzled with extra virgin olive oil. The taste was fresh and wholesome. It was the perfect place to recharge my body’s batteries before heading out to face the rest of my busy day. 7 North Street, Plymouth, (508) 747-0462, www.blueblindsbakery.com
