EXPLORING THE SOUTH SHORE ONE BITE AT A TIME

New Dining on Plymouth Waterfront

New Dining on Plymouth Waterfront

What’s not to savor during a visit to the downtown Plymouth waterfront in the peak summer season? (Well, besides finding parking.) The area is filled with the most life it will see for the entire year. Storefronts are brimming with local treasures, the Mayflower II is docked and ready for curious visitors to hop aboard and explore each deck, and restaurants are open later, serving up the South Shore’s best seasonal offerings.

New to the scene is Anna’s Harborside Grille, a place locals have been waiting patiently to see open their doors. After a long renovation process throughout the off-season and up until the end of May, the restaurant opened just last month at 145 Water Street, right next to Crazy Eddie's.

Worth the wait? I’d say so given the casual, well composed dishes and waterfront atmosphere. Owner Dimitri Stavropoulos and his brother opened the restaurant as a tribute to their mother. The two wanted to have a casual restaurant offering a fusion of cuisines, but most importantly, they wanted to incorporate the classic Mediterranean Greek dishes they enjoyed as kids. Already operating the successful Kingston House of Pizza, this venture gives more focus to a variety of both casual and gourmet foods with family inspiration. The menu options range from hearty artisan sandwiches, to brick oven pizzas, to burgers— and each have a classic Mediterranean-style option along with a touch of the South Shore’s plentiful fresh ingredients.

Besides the inspired dishes, dining on the newly built outdoor patio is the best experience. There’s no view of the street, as the restaurant itself blocks off the sight. The entire area feels like its own little courtyard, surrounded by manicured shrubs with only the oceanfront side open for viewing. The seating is elegant and comfortable rather than dainty, and large umbrellas shield the strong mid-day sun.  Connected is also an outdoor bar, a place I could see myself stopping in at for a cocktail during a day adventure along the strip.

With their heart poured into the food and the entire establishment, it’s no wonder they have been off to a busy start for the season.

Anna’s Harborside Grille is open daily for lunch and dinner.
