08/23/12Retro Flatbread FlavorNothing beats dining outside on a warm summer day, especially when you’re enjoying a delicious lunch, hot off the grill. A recent mid-day stop at Ember in Marshfield took this concept up a notch by offering a deliciously simple menu served outside a shiny vintage Spartan trailer. Ember’s retro take on a food truck was the brainchild of restaurant owner Charlie Bounazos, who collects vintage trailers as a hobby. Guests can sit at café tables in the parking lot of what is one of the most elegant and contemporary South Shore restaurants, and enjoy the same high quality flavor in a much more casual environment. 08/09/12Salute to G.I. Ginger Betty FoundationThere are many great organizations that support American soldiers but none quite as sweet as the G.I. Ginger Betty Foundation. Established by Beth Veneto, owner of Ginger Betty’s Bakery in Quincy, the foundation ships thousands of gingerbread cookies to deployed military personnel and also provides gingerbread houses to the families of deployed soldiers from Massachusetts each year. Members of the public can help support the effort by attending The G.I. Ginger Betty Foundation’s 6th Annual Family Fun Day on Saturday, August 11th, from 12-5 p.m. at The Summer House Tent at Marina Bay in Quincy.
